From Holly Birch Photography…Oh my goodness! My heart! When I first sat down with Kathryn, her mom and sister, we talked a lot about Kathryn + Wil and how they ended up having their wedding in Champaign. Though they both grew up in Champaign, they went to school in Tennessee (and now live there) and her parents currently live in Alabama. It turns out both Kathryn + Wil grew up in Champaign, and Wil’s family still lives here. It made the most sense given their childhood and their ties to the community. Don’t you just love a good “high school sweethearts” story? Also at that first meeting, there was talk about “Rocky Top” being played (I mean, how could you NOT??). We discussed Kathryn’s love of color (like me!). And when Kathryn said the colors would be pink, orange and navy, I was ALL IN. We met several months later again to go over some last details and I learned that her dress was a Hayley Paige… swoon! They showed me the wedding invitation, and I immediately knew it was a Lilly Pulitzer look they were going for. (And poor Wil had no idea what any of those words meant – ha!) The day went smashingly well, and I immediately grew to love the antics of Wil and his groomsmen. Throughout the day, several tears were shed by the ladies in the wedding party and mothers, but Kathryn smiled through it all. Sometimes you have to smile to keep from crying, especially when the tears are of happiness and new beginnings. I am SO happy I was able to witness Kathryn + Wil and their college friends singing along to “Rocky Top” at the cocktail hour. I had been inside photographing details, but came out just in time. It was definitely the highlight of the day, and also the cover photo for this blog post!
