This modern day storybook-inspired wedding couldn’t be more perfect for this adorably in love couple. Their happily ever after began with a location that’s truly fit for a prince and his princess. The historic estate with formal gardens and magnificent grounds is a dream come true for a bride who is seeking a fairytale wedding with a touch of princess. Ashley fell in love with OHEKA Castle Hotel & Estate halfway down the pebble driveway lined with tall evergreens. “[The facility] just takes your breath away,” Ashley shared. Upon entering the entryway with its beautiful double staircase, the couple was struck speechless by the overall architecture including the high ceilings, library, and overall furnishings that are spread throughout. For Ashley and Paul, all of their wedding dreams came true and it was captured beautifully by Brett Matthews Photography.
“I actually found my dress online. I had been looking at designs and ideas for months and found this dress and loved it. I thought that when I put it on I would hate it or that it wouldn’t fit me well or something but it turned out to be perfect. I went to RK Bridal in NYC with about seven people in tow to find the dress. They were worse than me! There were all over the store pulling dresses for me to try on – so many that the person had to tell them they had too many! I wanted to try on my dress first but they wouldn’t let me so I tried on about five or six before my posse was satisfied enough to let me try on the one I knew I loved. As soon as I put it on I knew it was my dress. It fit me like a glove (well not the sample, but they made it fit right with some clamps) and it was exactly what I had envisioned. As soon as I walked out of the fitting room everyone knew this was the perfect dress and I was in love with it.”Riding horses has always been a big part of Ashley’s life, so she wanted to somehow incorporate this detail into her wedding day. A horse and carriage made a nice photo opportunity while tying in the fairytale idea.
Set on off-white swirl-patterned linens were low floral arrangements of hydrangea, orchids, and calla lilies in various shades of purple. At each place setting was a small box wrapped in purple ribbon with two Godiva truffles in it. The couple also chose to assign their tables by a specific year rather than a traditional number. Accompanying each year was a picture of Ashley and Paul. “It was an easy way to add a bit of personalization to the tables and was a great conversation-starter for guests if they didn’t know each other,” shared Ashley.
The Proposal: Six weeks into their relationship, Ashley moved into her new apartment, along with Paul, and they found themselves moving to New York City shortly after. On April 28, 2012, the two planned a trip to the Museum of Natural History followed by lunch and a walk through Central Park―a location to which they had never been as a couple. As they were enjoying the view from atop a hill, Ashley turned to find Paul on one knee. They celebrated at their favorite restaurant, SD26 in Madison Park.
Bride’s favorite memory of the day: Seeing Paul for the first time. We are rarely apart so it felt weird not to have seen him in a day and to have not gone to sleep with him the night before. At he moment that we first saw each other it was like no one else existed and I was so excited for the rest of the day.
Groom’s favorite memory of the day: Seeing my wife in her dress for the first time takes the cake!
