Designed by a German architect in 1849 as a Jewish synagogue on the Lower East Side of New York City, Dina and Evan quickly fell in love with Angel Orensanz’ rich and unique history. Brass Moroccan lanterns displaying a single candle were placed on every other step along the central entrance stairs leading up to the facility. Upon entering, guests were greeted with a non-alcoholic summer cocktail to cool off from the New York summer heat.
The couple used various touches of understated elegance throughout the space that was glamorous, yet warm and welcoming. A lounge area consisting of a tufted sofa and bench ottoman, armchairs, coffee tables, and additional furniture was available just off the dance floor for guests to enjoy throughout the evening.
The Proposal: My cousin invited me to a food festival in Chelsea. Evan said he had promised to help a friend with something and couldn’t come. My cousin and I were at the festival for several hours, and when I was exhausted and finally insisted that we leave, she kept stalling on the way home. She stopped for cupcakes, water, to browse through an antique shop, and finally for lemonade. I was so annoyed and was glad when I was finally able to get home. Excited to tell Evan about the festival, and wearing a sweater and jeans, I stepped into our apartment, which was covered in roses and candles everywhere. He sat me down on the couch, told me how much he loved me, got down on one knee, opened the ring box and popped the question! I was more shocked than I have ever been in my whole life. I had no idea he was ring shopping or even thinking about marriage! When some of the shock wore off and I said yes, we went out for dinner and cocktails.
Bride’s favorite memory of the day: Entering the hall for my processional. The large doors opened and the DJ began to play Marry You by Bruno Mars, and everyone in the room was looking at my parents and me walking down the aisle. I felt so beautiful, and so loved, and so grateful for everyone that was there. Seeing Evan standing at the end of the aisle, it just felt perfect.
Groom’s favorite memory of the day: Being on the dance floor with all my friends, Heady Topper in hand, dancing with Dina, at my wedding. This feeling just came over me, like this is incredible!
Advice for engaged couples: Enjoy your time as a bride-to-be! It goes by so quickly and the stress of it all can easily cloud the excitement and joy. Know that your family and friends just want to see you happy on your special day; everything else is just details. And don’t let wedding stress put a strain on your relationship; commit to setting dates where you don’t discuss the wedding at all!
