“Walking down the aisle on October 2, 2012, was not only a moment of truth, it was a reminder that if you have faith and believe in something bigger than yourself, there is a chance that your miracle can happen.” After planning the wedding you’ve dreamed of, it’s inevitable to wish and pray that your special day will go off without a hitch. When Hurricane Sandy made landfall on the east coast, that’s exactly what Christie and Kyle did. While most would have broke down, Christie and Kyle had faith and were still be able to exchange vows on their wedding day with the help of some amazing vendors. After looking through these fabulous pictures captured by Jessica Lauren Photography, you wouldn’t think twice that a storm swept through the area shortly before this couple said “I Do”.
Growing up, Christie and Kyle spent every summer at their second homes in Mantoloking and Lavallette, New Jersey. When Kyle began planning the proposal, he knew there was no better location to ask for Christie’s hand in marriage than on the beach, as they have many wonderful memories at the Jersey shore. Little did they know, two years after Kyle’s proposal in Lavallette, Hurricane Sandy would affect every detail of their anticipated wedding day. With the help of their vendors, family, and friends, Christie and Kyle re-planned their entire wedding seamlessly, and the couple was ready to tie the knot. “I will be forever grateful [for everyone who helped save our wedding day],” thanked the bride.
“I was so confused when I first walked in to Bijou Bridal and by the time I was leaving, I felt like I knew what dress I wanted. After going to other stores, no one else compared so I had to go back to Bijou to try on that FIRST dress [again]. My Stephan Jolie dress was the exact opposite of what I thought I wanted. It was a fitted, dropped-waist dress with a sweetheart neckline and Swarovski crystal embellished bodice.”
How fabulous are Christie’s rhinestone embellished shoes? We’re obsessed!
Christie carried a gorgeous two-toned bouquet of red roses and black magic calla lillies.
The ceremony took place at the groom’s parish, Our Lady of Mount Virgin. “Father Peter has been my priest for several years now and he is the most down to earth, warm-hearted priest I ever met. Everyone loves Father Peter like he is one of the family,” shared Kyle.
The groom wore a classic black tuxedo with champagne vest and red rose boutonniere.
From the wedding preparations throughout the ceremony and reception, Jessica Lauren Photography captured the day’s events flawlessly. Christie and Kyle loved Jessica’s bubbly personality, professionalism, and her devotion to her work. “Jessica’s work is artsy, romantic, and she really pays attention to detail,” noted the bride. The couple was equally pleased working with V & V Video Productions, who captured the special moments on video. “I commend them for helping make our day special and putting forth their efforts especially in the aftermath of all the damage and disasters around us,” commented Kyle.
The groomsmen wore black tuxedos with purple vests that complemented the bridesmaids satin, ruched, dropped-waist dresses perfectly.
After the couple’s original wedding facility canceled due to power loss, Macaluso’s happily took Christie and Kyle in and helped re-plan the wedding in under 24 hours. “The staff at Macaluso’s was absolutely amazing and the food was unbelievable,” noted Kyle.
The Proposal: “I proposed to Christie at the shore because it was a big part of our childhood, growing up and holds a big place in our hearts. I was planning it for about 4 months. We looked at rings in May, but wanted it to be a complete surprise and pop the question when she least expected it. Haha, how did I know? I knew she was the one when I didn’t feel the need to go out every weekend and party. I was content with just spending time with her.”
Bride’s favorite memory of the day: Walking down the aisle I was SO excited to see that so many people made it to church even though the storm had disrupted everything from power to gas. I was waving and laughing and then suddenly I caught eye contact with Kyle, he was crying. I will never forget that moment; of course that’s when I started tearing up.
Groom’s favorite memory of the day: My favorite part of the day was seeing my beautiful bride walk down the aisle. Two years of planning and waiting for this day to come and for it to finally happen was truly remarkable. She looked so gorgeous I could not help but smile and choke back tears as she apporached me at the altar. Having an amazing ceremony with the person you love has to be the best memory for anyone.
What was the most exciting part of planning your wedding? The excitement of booking a vendor was the best, we would walk out of a place and be like CHECK, what’s next! It was exciting to see all the pieces coming together. Kyle was awesome, it was so nice to have a guy who actually cared to help plan.
Do you have any advice for couples that are planning their wedding? Form a budget before you decide to plan anything. This will help and guide you in choosing venues and vendors that will not break the bank. It is very important to plan together that way you both feel like there are both of your personalities in the wedding. This day only comes once so you should make it special and memorable for the both of you.
What are you currently enjoying or looking forward to as a couple? Starting our family together. Growing up I was taught family is the most important thing in life and I couldn’t wait to begin my own. Now I have that and we can begin to plan out our future.
