The end of summer is always bittersweet. Not only do those flirty sun dresses and open-toe sandals get stored away, but we will also soon be saying goodbye to beach trips and of course another wonderful [and busy] wedding season. While some of you are already enjoying the beginning of the crisp fall season, we’re hanging onto every little bit of warm weather [that we hope mother nature will bring over the last week of September]. For those who are sad to see summer come to an end, here’s a nautical-inspired soiree at The Channel Club that will warm your hearts with chic details (including some of the most beautiful mismatched bridesmaids dresses) captured by Something Blue Wedding Photography.
“I loved everything about my dress. It was called Sloan by Sottero and Midgley and featured a strapless corset style with a sweetheart neckline. It hugged my body in the all the right places and flared out like waves at the bottom. I had only gone to Nicole’s Boutique to try on dresses and the experience was wonderful. I think I only tried on about six dresses when I first went with my mom and at that time I narrowed it down to two I really liked. I went back about a month or two later when my sister was up visiting from Florida. I tried both of the gowns on again and of course, my mother liked one and my sister liked the other. It wasn’t until Nicole at the boutique pointed out to my mother that there was a dress I should try on because it looked like it had a little bit of each dress. Once I put it on I was sold! That was my dress and the decision was made that day! Once it came in and I saw it again, I was reassured. I was still in love with it and I knew Jay would be too. The best part was that it fit me so well the only alterations I needed was for my seamstress to add a bustle!”
Casey carried a bouquet of roses and ranunculus in the shades of pink, white, cream, and blush. A jeweled starfish pin and pearls were added throughout. The bridesmaids held similar bouquets featuring ranunculus, alstroemeria, and roses, which coordinated beautifully with their mismatched chiffon dresses in various shades of green and blue.
For their first dance as newlyweds, Casey and Jason held the spotlight to “My First, My Last, My Everything” by Joshua Radin. Their emcee for the evening then asked the bridal party to join in and switched to the fast Barry White version of the song. “It might be one of my favorite moments of the night,” shared Jason.
The Proposal: We started dating at such a young age and our love just continued to grow for one another as the years went on. I think it was when I was in college though, that I knew I didn’t want to spend my life with anyone else. Jay proposed on a Saturday [January 7, 2012] in the home we bought together in 2010. It was a beautiful day for January, I think probably around 60 degrees or so. The night before we had attended an after Christmas re-gifting party at a good friend’s house, where I had a little too much fun and was feeling a little bit under the weather the next day. I think that’s why when Jay had proposed, I was completely shocked. Not only was I clueless to the fact that he was even looking at rings, but I was also lounging on the couch all day in my bathrobe and long john pajamas while he did it. He tried to get me off the couch so many times and I just was not having it! Ultimately, Jay had called me into the den room where he got down on one knee and finally asked me to marry him. Despite wearing my pjamas and not feeling well, I was overwhelmed with joy and can honestly say that other than my wedding day, that it was the best day of my life. I wish I could relive that moment over and over again. It could not have been more perfect and it just seemed very fitting for us, I would not have changed a thing about that day.
Bride’s favorite memory of the day: Definitely my walk down the aisle and seeing Jay for the first time.
Groom’s favorite memory of the day: It’s hard to say but I think during the ceremony when Casey’s sister passed me a note from Casey at the altar right before she walked down the aisle. I won’t say what the note said but it was just another assurance that she is absolutely the perfect person for me.
What was the most exciting part of planning your wedding? I really just enjoyed spending time with my bridal party. Going shopping for their dresses and assembling all of the favors and table numbers.
Do you have any advice for couples that are planning their wedding? Don’t stress over things that you have no control over. Try to just enjoy the moment and have fun.
What are you currently enjoying or looking forward to as a couple? We recently just adopted a puppy and have just been enjoying spending time with each other.
