The Proposal: Mike proposed on a Friday night at our home in Hoboken in January of 2012. He recreated our first dates and a key moment in our relationship from college. He had all of the details recreated from the food, to the flowers, to even the putting on the movie we saw on our first date “Bruce Almighty”. I was shocked and excited all at the same time. I was completely surprised and I’m a hard person to surprise. After it happened all I kept thinking was “what should I do next?” and “ I want to tell everyone I know”. I could barely find 2 shoes that matched to leave our home to go spread the news! I knew Mike was a keeper shortly after we started dating I had never met a guy who was such a gentlemen. This quality is so hard to find these days! I think deep down I knew he was the one at that moment but it was further cemented and confirmed during our years at college. Mike and I went to separate schools about an hour apart. I went to Loyola in Maryland and he went to the Catholic University of America in DC but we diligently made time for each other and also gave each other our own space to make our own group of friends at school without being attached at the hip/spending all our waking moments together. This time in college helped us to grow trust, communication, and appreciation for one another, which I believe are success key factors in what has made our relationship successful.
Bride’s favorite memory of the day: My favorite was sitting at the sweetheart table with Mike looking out at all our close family and friends and seeing it all come together. All of the planning and details all together in one place and flawlessly executed.
Groom’s favorite memory of the day: The first time I saw Kelly because I felt such intense emotion and excitement about this incredible moment in our lives.
Advice for engaged couples who are planning their wedding: Remember that it is only one day in the rest of your lives together. Focus on what is important which is each other and planning a wedding that reflects you both as a couple not focusing on what everyone else wants. Also, keep in mind if something doesn’t go as planned, you will be the only one who will know!
