We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with a Patriotic-inspired wedding filled to the brim with traditional glamour and understated details. From the color scheme of navy and silver sparkle to the groom and groomsmen’s American flag socks, modern custom stationery, and even the addition of barbecue favorites during cocktail hour, Amy and Eric’s wedding day is a sophisticated take on Old Glory that will be forever timeless. Let’s talk wedding fashion. Tell us a little about your wedding gown, accessories, groom’s attire and wedding party attire.
I wore a Casablanca gown with a full A-line skirt with a beaded illusion bateau front and back necklines. The skirt had pockets, buttons down the entire back of the gown and a beaded sash at the natural waist. Accessories included a rhinestone clip that resembled a broach, a cathedral-length veil, and navy glitter Jimmy Choo shoes that almost matched identically to the bridesmaid dresses. Eric had a custom formal black shaw collar tux and pants made from My Suit in NYC with a white shirt, black bowtie, black shoes, golf ball cufflinks and American flag socks. The bridesmaids wore navy blue sequined gowns with a scoop back from Christina Wu, while the groomsmen sported Calvin Klein formal attire.
What was your something old, new, borrowed and blue?
My something old was my garter, which my aunt made from the fabric of my grandmother’s wedding gown and a handkerchief my mother received as a gift when I was born to be used on my wedding day. I borrowed Eric’s grandmother’s cameo pin that she wore on her wedding day and pinned it on the inside of my dress along with a piece of her veil. All of her granddaughters have worn this. Something blue was my Jimmy Choo heels and something new was my wedding gown.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding?
We knew we wanted a summer wedding. The Fourth of July is the bride’s favorite holiday and the groom is a former Army Captain, so the day had a bit of a patriotic undertone with an Old Hollywood glam feel. Nanina’s In The Park had the formal, traditional style we were going for and we liked having the entire venue to ourselves.
Tell us about your first dance:
We danced to “Happy” by Bruce Springsteen. Amy is a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and the lyrics to that song summarized our relationship.
